According to major costume suppliers, the top costumes this year will come from the big summer movies and from Disney, especially the cable TV's Disney Channel.

According to the National Retail Federation, Batman is a top costume for children due to the huge popularity of "The Dark Knight." A prominant retailer is also seeing heavy business in the Joker, Star Wars, Hannah Montana and Harry Potter.

Cari Shapiro, vice president for a major toy chain, said that hooded furry animals continue to be popular choices for the littlest ones and that a monkey was on track to be a top seller again this year. Other hot costumes include girly costumes with tutus, such as Tinkerbell and a ladybug with a tutu, along with monster costumes like the perenially popular Sesame Street Cookie Monster cosutume.
